Welcome to “Taal’s Fury,” a campaign designed for the Littoral Commander wargame system! This campaign utilizes the maps and component from Littoral Commander: INDO PACIFIC—players should ensure they have a complete set prior to beginning the campaign, as “Taal’s Fury” is intended to use all units and JCCs available to both sides. There are also special materials players will need to “print and play” to play this campaign; details on those are included below under “Print-and-Play Materials Needed.” Players should also develop a campaign tracker to note which units are destroyed in individual scenarios, as casualties taken in the “Black Flags Over Singapore” and “Stepping on Scorpions” scenarios will not be available in the final “Taal’s Wrath” scenario!
Designer’s Notes:
While these scenarios offer a campaign experience for players who want the consequences of their actions to carry over across battles, “Black Flags Over Singapore” and “Stepping on Scorpions” were also designed as instructional scenarios. These scenarios include a third player—intended as a more experienced instructor or facilitator—to allow newer players controlling the USMC or PLANMC factions to learn the capabilities of their factions without having to do so against an equally equipped adversary. This would give new players the experience needed to fight directly against each other in the final scenario, “Taal’s Wrath,” more intelligently.
The first two scenarios also include unique mechanics not found in other Littoral Commander scenarios that allow players to think about the challenges of hybrid or grey zone conflict against violent non-state actors. Instructors looking to challenge players with problem sets that are not simply solved by slinging missiles are encouraged to use “Black Flags Over Singapore” or “Stepping on Scorpions” as opportunities to do so, even if they do not play the longer campaign.
Because the results of the first two scenarios carry over to the final one, this campaign places significant responsibility on all teams and players to accurately track unit placement, losses, and redeployment from one scenario to another. This campaign is not for the lazy or inattentive—TRACK YOUR STUFF!
Now—on to the campaign!
